About the course
This course has been launched by the Resusciation Council of South Africa which is equivalent to the AHA (American Heart Association) BLS for Healthcare Providers course. This course teaches the skills of CPR and Choking for Victims of all ages that includes;
- Ventilation with a barrier device
- A pocket mask
- A bag valve mask (BVM)
- The use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on In-Hospital or Out of Hospital settings
Who can benefit
All Health Care Providers including but not limited to; Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, Medical Technicians, Respiratory Therapists, Paramedics, Nursing Asssistants or Medical & Nursing students and all allied Healthcare personnel. This course is also for anyone who is required to take a CPR Healthcare Providers course as part of their employment.
Each participant receives a full colour 25 page workbook to review before, during and after the course. The course covers international guidelines and recommendations on:
CPR for Adults, Children and Infants that include the use of the BVM
Using and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Management of and obstructed airway
There are no pre-requisites but is more suitable for candidates in the Healthcare environment. Participants should have read through the manual prior to the training. This course is accepted as a pre-requisite for ACLS, PALC and ANLS.
5-6 hours. Duration is a guide and will depend on the group progress.
On successful completion of this course the candidate will be issued a RCSA Certificate and is valid for 2 years. The participant will be required to demonstrate proficiency in CPR and AED skills and obtain a score of at least 84% in the written assessment.
R800 per person, refreshments are included
This course earns 15 CPD points. (Continuing Professional Development points) are according to the Health Professionals Council of South Africa
Discovery Vitality members earn 2500 points completing the course. Valid for 2 years. (Discovery T&C's apply)
Clothing for training
Wear suitable clothing during the course due to the practical sessions incorporated. Track suits or jeans work well.
