CPR for Professionals (RCSA)

Course Description.

This course has been launched by the Resuscitation Council of South Africa which is equivalent to the AHA (American Heart Association) BLS for Healthcare Providers course.

This course teaches the skills of CPR and Choking for Victims of all ages

Who Should Do this Course?

CPR for Professionals is a locally produced course designed to teach the skills of CPR and choking for victims of all ages, including ventilation with barrier devices, pocket masks, bag-valve-mask devices with supplemental oxygen, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators to all healthcare providers in both hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

All Health Care Providers including but not limited to:

  • Doctors
  • Dentists
  • Nurses
  • Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists
  • Medical Technicians
  • Respiratory Therapists
  • Paramedics
  • Nursing Assistants
  • Medical & Nursing student
  • All allied Healthcare personnel

Training Material

Each participant receives a full colour 25 page workbook to review before, during and after the course. The course covers international guidelines and recommendations on:

  • CPR for Adults, Children and Infants that include the use of the BVM
  • Using and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Management of and obstructed airway

Learner Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites but is more suitable for candidates in the Healthcare environment. Participants should have read through the manual prior to the training. This course is accepted as a pre-requisite for ACLS, PALC and ANLS.

*The participant will be required to demonstrate proficiency in CPR and AED skills and obtain a score of at least 84% in the written assessment.

CPD POINTS

HPCSA and AHPCSA professionals earn 15 CPD points when successfully completing the course.
